Holistic Treatment for Multiple Sclerosis Disease in NYC

Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis?

If you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), you may be familiar with interactions like these at your medical doctor’s visits:

Patient : I have been having bouts of numbness and weakness in my legs and issues with my vision. I’m also experiencing constant fatigue.

Medical Doctor: These could be symptoms of MS which will require powerful drugs to suppress your immune system to manage this condition.

Patient: My MS medications have been causing me discomfort and many other side effects, and I’m not sure if they are really helping me.

Medical Doctor: If these drugs aren’t working for you, we can look at some other stronger medications, but none of them are guaranteed to work and all of them have potential side effects.

Receiving a diagnosis of MS is a difficult experience. These types of interactions with your medical doctor can make MS seem irremediable and make you feel helpless to do anything other than take drugs to “manage” it. Conventional medicine often has us believe that there is only one course to take. Many of the MS patients I see in my New York City practice express their desire for something more than just taking drugs. Often, there is a sense of hopelessness since they have been told that MS typically acts progressively, worsening over time, even with constant medical treatment.

Fortunately, there is another way!

A way that addresses the underlying causes of Multiple Sclerosis.

A way that promotes healing and is focused on the resolution of your symptoms rather than just suppressing them with drugs.

A way that honors the fact that your body is designed for health!

Understanding Multiple Sclerosis

According to the conventional medicine system, Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the myelin sheaths of your central nervous system. Myelin is an insulating layer – or sheath – that forms around nerves, including those located in the brain and spinal cord. It is made up of protein and fatty substances. This myelin sheath allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along the nerve cells.

MS is typically diagnosed in individuals between 20 and 40 years old, however, younger, and older people can be affected. Some common symptoms of MS are fatigue, numbness, tingling and burning, muscle spasms and weakness (especially in the legs), difficulty in walking, balance problems, blurred vision, vision loss, slurred speech, difficulty in swallowing, leaking and urgency of urine, insomnia, anxiety, and depression. The medical model states there is no cure for MS.

Holistic Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis in New York

Conventional Treatment for MS

Similar to the treatment of many other auto-immune diseases, the conventional MS treatment typically involves the use of medical drugs to suppress the immune response. The suppression is designed to reduce the symptoms and disease progression and to delay degeneration and disability. What is missing in this approach is the focus on healing which requires finding and addressing the underlying causes of your MS symptoms.

Holistic Treatments for MS

First and foremost, the focus of holistic treatment for MS is to find and address the underlying causes and – most importantly – to set the body to heal at the deepest levels. What I have found to be the major underlying causes of MS are:

  • Heavy Metal Toxicity
  • Environmental Toxins
  • Viruses (especially the Epstein-Barr Virus)
  • Candida Overgrowth
  • Emotional Trauma and Stress
  • Diet and Lifestyle
  • Epigenetic Factors

According to the principles of holistic medicine, only the treatments that address these underlying causes will have lasting health results.

In my many years of practicing holistic medicine, I have found that every individual who has been diagnosed with MS has at least three of the above-mentioned underlying causes. These underlying causes must be identified and addressed for true healing to occur. For example, when heavy metals are identified and removed from the body, the symptoms begin to lessen and that is when the body begins its healing journey. The same holds true when any other of these underlying root causes are addressed.

As a holistic doctor, I offer holistic programs that identify and address the underlying causes of your Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. These programs are designed to meet your individual needs and health goals. All my programs are clearly written out and explained. They let you know exactly what you need to do, including:

  • What detoxification practices are recommended
  • What lifestyle changes will help you heal
  • What foods will help you heal
  • What foods to stay away from
  • What supplements or homeopathic remedies are recommended
  • What specific tests are recommended
  • What educational materials are helpful to watch or read
  • What practices will help to reduce your stress
  • Recommend practices to keep you inspired and motivated during your healing process

About Detoxification

One of the biggest challenges in today’s world is bioaccumulation, which is the gradual buildup of toxins in the body. As these toxins build up in our bodies, they greatly contribute to the inflammation and disease process of multiple sclerosis. Therefore, it is very important to know which are the right foods, supplements, homeopathic remedies, and holistic practices to assist the body in the detoxification of these harmful toxins.

The Journey Back to Vibrant Health:  Andrew Duffy’s Story

Over 30 years ago, in my early 30’s I began to experience weakness and numbness in my legs a week after competing in a triathlon.  Then I began to notice issues with my vision.  I went to my medical doctor, who sent me to see a neurologist.  After an MRI and a spinal tap, he told me that I had MS.  My initial reaction was disbelief, which led me to seek a second opinion from another doctor.  I eventually was examined by four neurologists and they all gave me the same diagnosis of MS and a prescription for steroids to suppress my immune system.

Unwilling to accept this hopeless path to a declining quality of life, I instead began my own research into the underlying root causes of disease, with an eye toward addressing them in order to create conditions in my body for it to restore health and vitality.  My first step was to detoxify my body from heavy metals, particularly mercury.  I then undertook a cleansing program to restore my body’s ability to eliminate waste and toxins.  Building on that, I sought to upgrade my diet to enhance nutrition and provide my body with the raw materials it needed to repair, rebuild, and ultimately regenerate.

The proof of my recovery is borne out by competing in another triathlon about 18 months after being told by four neurologists that I’d probably never walk without a cane for balance and support.

Today, I’m deeply grateful for my experience with “MS” as it served like a speed bump on the road of life, causing me to take a different path that has led to better health and vitality in my 60s than I had in my 30s.  I am also deeply grateful for the presence in my life of wise, caring healers like Dr. Salzarulo, whose commitment to sharing the principles of vibrant health serves to illuminate the path to an empowered life of strength and ease.
