| Candida Case Study
Tina was a 29 year old woman who presented with persistent complaints for the past three years: fatigue, insomnia, itchy skin (especially in the vaginal region); thick, white, odorless vaginal discharge (described as resembling cottage cheese), insomnia, gas and bloating, intense sugar cravings and frequent bouts of depression. She also complained that she gained weight in her lower belly and was unable to lose it.
Tina tried several rounds of Nystatin and Diflucan which were prescribed by her local physician. She reported that the above medications gave her temporary relief from her symptoms, but they would always return. She also tried taking grapefruit seed extract, pau d'arco tea, and caprilic acid supplements. She said they also provided only temporary relief. Once she returned to any of her old eating habits, her symptoms would immediately reappear.
Our work together focused on an integrated approach. We began a general detoxification program and progressed to a Candida specific cleanse. During this period, Tina agreed to adhere to a diet that did not encourage the growth of Candida.
She committed to a regular exercise program consisting of a mix of yoga, dance, and rebounding. She said she enjoyed these activities and felt increasingly inspired to do them.
She received massages when time and finances allowed and enjoyed evening baths with her favorite relaxation oils. Three weeks into the program Tina's energy level greatly improved, her lower belly began to flatten, losing its bloated look. She also reported a sharp decrease in sugar cravings, itching and vaginal discharge. Tina chose to continue with the cleansing process for another two rounds because she said it was not hard to; she felt inspired and encouraged for the first time in years. All of Tina's symptoms eventually resolved except for her insomnia which was cured with a constitutional homeopathic remedy.
Tina now enjoys a life of extraordinary health and states she is able to have ice cream and chocolate (her favorites) on occasion without her symptoms returning.
